Eleanor is Assistant Director for the MusikTheater an der Wien’s new production of Die Fledermaus, directed by Stefan Herheim.

On 5 April, 1874, on what is now Linke Wienzeile, the curtain rose on a world premiere that was to change the genre of operetta, the life of composer Johann Strauss and consequently the history of the Theater an der Wien forever. Die Fledermaus delighted in erasing all boundaries: the distinctions between light theatre and grand opera, entertainment and serious music, fantasy and reality, magnificent balls and rowdy gaols, aristocrats and servants were all washed away by champagne.
